Parker 204 and 304 Series Solenoid Valves provide fluid control for food & beverage, commercial, industrial, instrumentation, transportation and HVAC markets. Watlow FIREBAR 1.25 Screw Plug Immersion Heaters

Fire Bar Screw Plug Immersion Heaters by Watlow and Flow Factor

Watlow FIREBAR 1.25 inch Screw Plug Immersion heaters (BDNF Series) for heating Process water. The screw plug is made of 304 Stainless Steel and the element is made of Alloy 800. The watt density is about 45 watts per square inch.

Also available with integral thermostats in two ranges 60-250 or 100-550 degrees F.


The FIREBAR has a few advantages over a tubular element.

The FIREBAR element has three resistant wires and thus can be wired in single or three phase with only a single element.

The FIREBAR element has lower watt density for the same length of immersion, or put another way it can have higher wattage with less immersion depth.

The FIREBAR design has better heat transfer due to the design of the element than the round tubular element, it creates more surface area within the medium.

Watlow is a world leader in the manufacture of Electric heating elements.  Immersion heaters are made with electric elements with a fitting so that the heater can protrude though the tank wall for direct immersion into the liquid or medium being heated.  The elements can be made of Copper, Stainless Steel, Steel or Alloy 800 (a nickel enriched metal).  Watlow uses Alloy 800 for the majority of their heaters and Stainless for specific types of liquids like DI Water.  With the cost of copper skyrocketing, Watlow has discontinued its' use.  n this blog are the most common size of screw plug heater the 2 1/2 inch size.  2.5 inch screw plug are popular since a bundle of three elements can be used along with a thermowell.  The common voltages are 240 and 480 in either 1 phase or 3 phase, three phase being more common due to the lower amp draw and the widespread use of 480 within USA manufacturing facilities.

Heaters in this blog are designed for use with water or liquids similar in viscosity of water.  Oils and other more viscous materials will need different wattages and materials of construction than these water heaters.

The Watt Density is between 59 and 61 and total wattages from 2 to 18 kilowatts (KW). Voltages come in 120 single phase or 240 and 480 three phase with General Purpose (NEMA 1) enclosure. The units with the built in Thermostat have a range of 30-110F, 60-250F or 100-550F.  Please note that running the elements dry will cause them to burn out.  Use a low water cut off or liquid level control to protect the heating elements.
