ASCO 2-Way Valves

Asco Two Way Valves by Flow Factor

Two Way valves are the most common type of valve. Two way valves turn the flow of a media ON and OFF or OFF and ON depending on whether they are Normally Open or Normally Closed.

ASCO 2-Way Solenoid Valves

ASCO's 2-Way solenoid valves have one inlet and one outlet, and are used to permit and shut off fluid flow. The two types of operations are Normally Closed (NC) and Normally Open (NO). Two types of constructions apply to 2-way solenoid valves, which are direct acting and internally piloted.

With Direct acting constructions, the solenoid is energized, the core directly opens the orifice of a Normally Closed valve or closes the orifice in a Normally Open Valve. The valve will operate at pressures from 0 psi to its rated maximum.

Internally piloted constructions use line pressure to assist operation. When the coil is de-energized (on a Normally Closed Valve), the pilot orifice is closed and line pressure is applied to the top of the piston or diaphragm through the bleed orifice, closing the valve.

ASCO's line of 2-way solenoid valves include General Service, Hot Water/ Steam, Potable Water and Food Service, Vacuum, Cryogenic and Liquid C02, Air Operated, Proportional, Intrinsically Safe, Low Power, Isolation/ Shielded Core, Long Life / Quiet, Ammonia, Dry Air, Magnetic Latching and Medical/ Analytical.

Two-way solenoid valves have one inlet and one outlet, and are used to permit and shut off fluid flow.

Two Types of Operations Apply

Normally Closed (NC)

Fluid is shut off when the coil is de-energized, flows through the valve when the coil is energized.

Normally Open (NO)

Fluid flows through the valve when the coil is de-energized, shuts off when the coil is energized.

Two Types of Constructions Apply

Direct Acting

When the solenoid is energized, the core directly opens the orifice of a Normally Closed valve or closes the orifice in a Normally Open valve. The valve will operate at pressures from 0 psi to its rated maximum. The force needed to open the valve is proportional to the orifice size and fluid pressure. As orifice size increases, so does the required force. To open larger orifices without increasing solenoid size, internal pilots are used.

Internally Piloted

These valves use line pressure to assist operation.

When the coil is de-energized (on a Normally Closed valve), the pilot orifice is closed and line pressure is applied to the top of the piston or diaphragm through the bleed orifice, closing the valve. When the coil is energized, the core opens the pilot orifice, relieving pressure from the diaphragm or piston. Line pressure, alone, opens the valve by lifting the diaphragm or piston off the main orifice.

Standard and Optional Features

Solenoid valves are supplied, as listed, with either RedHat II molded epoxy solenoids or RedHat solenoids with metal enclosures. RedHat II valves are identified by the letter “G” or “H” in their catalog numbers; e.g., 8030G016. Many optional features may be added to your valves; e.g., high-temperature Class H molded coils, manual operators, and metering devices.

ASCO Solenoid Valves

Solenoid Valves
The solenoid is an electromagnetic part of a valve, comprised of a coil, coretube, core and enclosure. ASCO Redhat brand offers the worlds largest selection of 2-, 3- and 4-way solenoid valves, designed to handle the most demanding fluid control applications.ASCO Solenoid Valve
ASCO RedHat

2-Way One inlet and one outlet, and are used to permit and shut off fluid flow. The two types of operations are “Normally Closed” and “Normally Open”.

3-Way These valves have three pipe connections and two orifices. When one orifice is open, the other is closed and vice versa. They're commonly used to alternately apply pressure to and exhaust pressure from a valve actuator or a single acting cylinder. These valves can be normally closed, normally open or universal.
4-Way These valves have four or five pipe connections, commonly called ports. One pressure inlet, two cylinder ports providing pressure to double acting cylinder or actuator, and one or two outlets to exhaust pressure from the cylinders.
Condensate Drain Valve Assemblies These valves are designed to automatically drain condensate in compressed air systems. The series features standard 2-way solenoid and piloted piston valves, along with an adjustable electronic timer.
Direct Mount These Series are standard 3-way and 4-way solenoid valves whose NPT pipe connections and mounting configurations have been replaced by NAMUR mounting configuration. This allows each valve to be mounted directly to an actuator without the use of hard piping or tubing.
Dust Collector These series are high-flow fast-opening 2 way valves, pilot valves, pilot valve enclosures and bulkhead fittings that have been specially designed for use in dust collector systems.
Group Mounted These series are 2-way, 3-way and 4-way 2-position valves that are designed for gang mounting into different quantities of valves. Any combination of normally closed, normally open or universal valves may be grouped together.
Isolation Isolation valves incorporate a diaphragm that shields the fluid flowing through the valve from the internal solenoid components making them ideal for handling corrosive or high purity fluids. These valves are available with in-line porting or manifold constructions and in a wide variety of inert materials.
Manual Reset These series are standard 2-way, 3-way and 4-way 2-position valves that use a manual reset assembly in replacement of the solenoid. They are designed to prevent inadvertent valve startup in their designed failure modes. These series are available in no voltage release, electrically tripped, and free handle constructions as well as latched open or latched closed for 2-way valves.
Medical/Analytical Micro-Miniature General Service, Isolation, and Pinch valves for the reliable control of fluids and gases in medical equipment and analytical instrumentation.
Pinch Pinch valves are designed to control the flow of fluid by locating soft tubing in a mechanism that "pinches" the tubing to block flow and releases to allow flow. Pinch valves are suitable for corrosive fluids, high purity applications, or fluids with particulate.

Commercial/Industrial Pumps by Armstrong

Armstrong Pumps at Flow Factor

Series 4300 Split Coupled Vertical In-Line

Armstrong's vertical in-line pump represents a design innovation that has repeatedly proven its value over the past 30 years. Armstrong took a leadership role in improving the efficiency and utility of commercial pumps by designing and marketing the vertical in-line pump in the early 1970s. Armstrong takes a leading role in educating engineers around the world on the value of vertical in-line pump installations, and offers one of the widest range of vertical in-line pump sizes in the industry. The Armstrong 4300 split coupled vertical in-line pump includes both a silicon carbide seal and an outside balanced seal as standard items. Armstrong vertical in-line pumps combine excellent operating efficiency, with very low vibration and noise. As well, Armstrong offers a very valuable design/assist program whereby an internal designer will work with contractors and engineers to ‘lay out' and mechanical room using vertical technology. In past instances, substituting vertical pumps for horizontal, in addition to reorganizing and repositioning mechanical room components has led to tremendous cost savings in piping and system efficiency.

IVS and IVS Sensorless Variable Speed Pumps

The Armstrong IVS Sensorless pump is designed to meet the need for energy-efficient pumping systems in today's buildings. Traditional smaller pumping systems, up to and including 10 hp, incorporating fixed-speed pumps waste energy through crude throttling valve flow control. Lifetime Cost Analysis shows that the capital cost of a fixed-speed pump is typically only 5% of its lifetime cost.

The IVS Sensorless pump is a new generation variable-speed pump, completely integrated into a compact package. Pressure transducers/sensors are no longer required, which reduces the installed cost of the unit and makes it practical to use these IVS variable-speed pumps in a retrofit installation.

Applications for this technology include variable volume heating and chilled water applications. The design of the Armstrong IVS Sensorless pump goes beyond ASHRAE 90.1 standards, providing the benefits of variable speed technology for motor sizes below 10 hp.

  • Variable speed technology allows the speed of the pump to be tuned to suit system demand.
  • Technological advancements make variable speed pumps attractive in terms of both capital and lifetime cost.
  • Pressure transducers/sensors are no longer required, further reducing capital and installation cost.
  • The IVS Sensorless pump is a new generation pump, completely integrated into a compact package.
  • Applications for this technology include variable volume heating and chilled water applications.
  • Goes beyond ASHRAE 90.1 standards by adding value through varying pump speed with 10 hp and lower motor sizes.
Series 4302 and 4382 Vertical In-Line dualArm Pumps

Armstrong’s new dualArm vertical in-line pumps incorporate two Series 4300 or 4380 pumps in a single casing. Series 4302 is designed with split spacer type couplings, so that the mechanical seals may be serviced without disturbing the pump or motor connections, and is available with outside balanced or inside seals. Series 4382 is the economical close coupled design. Each type is supplied with a swing discharge port to hydraulically separate the casings to prevent recirculation when only one pump operates. Isolation valves enable one pump to be isolated for service or removal with the second pump still operating.

Series 4360 and 4380 Close Coupled Vertical In-Line

VERTICAL IN-LINE SERIES 4360
Armstrong’s economical, lower-range vertical inline pump for HVAC, domestic water systems, and industrial applications requiring a compact pump. Positive sealing assured by proven inside-type mechanical seal. Radially split volute permits removal of the motor and pump rotating assembly without removing the pump volute from the line. Fewer maintenance and servicing problems due to bearing-free pump design. Available in bronze fitted, all bronze, or all iron construction, in a range of sizes.

VERTICAL IN-LINE SERIES 4380
Armstrong’s close-coupled vertical in-line pump features economical inside-type, single-spring mechanical seal, serviced by removing the rotating assembly while the pump casing remains in the line. Dynamically balanced impeller assures smooth, vibration-free operation. Radially split volute with equal suction and discharge flange sizes. Separate tapped openings for gauge, flush and drain connections. Available in bronze fitted, all bronze, all iron, and ductile iron construction.

Series 4030 and TD40 Base Mounted Pumps

Motor mounted version of the horizontal end suction pump, with flanged connections. Radially-split volute with center-line discharge. Motor features heavy duty, grease-lubricated ball bearings. Supplied with self-lubricating mechanical seal and bronze balanced cast impeller designed for smooth performance and long life. Available in bronze fitted, all bronze and all iron construction.

Series 4600 HSC Horizontal Split Case

The Series 4600 is the state of the art Horizontal Split Case pump – based on the "Tilted Parting" concept to minimize turbulence at the eye of the impeller by its straight laminar approach, thus maximizing efficiency. This also results in the lowest profile and minimum floor space of any HSC pump, lowering installation costs. Cartridge seals and bearing removal nuts ensure ease of maintenance.
